When it comes to theme park food, it's all about the SNACKS! Sure, you have the standards like popcorn, pretzels, or ice cream, but the best treats are a little more unique. Magic Kingdom is home the to infamous Adventureland Spring Roll cart! We had been hearing about this location for months prior to our most recent WDW trip and were so excited to try these tasty bites. Unfortunately, the cart was closed every time we were in the area. When it's open, this unassuming little wagon churns out spring rolls filled with savory flavors; past offerings include Philly Cheesesteak and Bacon Mac 'n' cheese. It seems that quantities are limited, so once they are sold out, the cart closes for the day. So, we did the next best thing: we made our own!

Deliciousness!

We decided to make the two offerings that are currently found at the cart: cheeseburger and pepperoni. And if we do say so ourselves, they were delightful! At Magic Kingdom, you can purchase two spring rolls for $9.50, which seems pretty steep. While we have not tried them straight from the source, we would say that our homemade versions definitely stack up! They are pretty simple to create, and make for a fantastic party snack.

Some dipping action!

Spring rolls can be a little tricky if you've never made them before, so here are a few tips:

Frozen spring roll wrappers from an Asian supermarket.

The first thing is getting the right wrapper:

It's likely that the only place you can find them is at an authentic Asian market, that's where we found ours. They'll be in the freezer section, and will be made of flour. Be careful of rice paper wrappers found in the dry goods section of the store, these are often called spring roll wrappers so it's definitely confusing. These are brittle and require soaking in water before wrapping; they're primarily used for fresh hand rolls, often called "summer rolls." So remember, stick to the freezer section at a local Asian market. If you don't have one nearby, check the produce section of your local grocery store; most of them will carry egg roll wrappers, this is the best substitute for the flour wrappers.

Second, is rolling the spring rolls:

To assemble the spring rolls, lay a single wrapper flat on the work surface in the shape of a diamond. Brush the flour and water mixture along the two top edges. Add 3 tablespoons of filling to the bottom half of the wrapper. Fold the bottom corner over the filling, roll once, fold in the side corners, and continue rolling to form the spring roll. You can either fry them right away, or freeze them on a parchment lined pan and store in the freezer for a couple months. Here's some step by step photos for these recipes, you'll be an expert in no time.

Last, but not least: Spring rolls are so versatile:

Just like at the Adventureland Spring Roll cart, you can put literally anything into a spring roll. Make any type of filling you can thing of, roll them up, and give them a fry. The adventure awaits!
